Vladimir Vovk Receives Award from Russian Govt.

The Russian Government has granted Vladimir S. Vovk, an honored oil and gas worker of the Russian Federation, a science and technology award for having engineered and encouraged the industrialization of large-scale oil and gas plants intended for Russia’s continental shelf.

Vladimir Vovk has devoted his entire life to oil and gas. Back in time, the then USSR Ministry of the Gas Industry commissioned Vladimir, among other pioneers, to help explore and produce natural gas in the South China Sea, off the shores of Vietnam. 1988 saw him head a Russian-Vietnamese joint venture called Vietsovpetro with six subsequent years of great work towards promoting stronger petroleum projects developed together with Petrovietnam. Vovk relates the success of his mission in Vietnam to proactivity. “We would map out plans all the time; and when I was leaving Vietnam, I knew there was an action plan running until 2030 with ways ahead. We were driven by visionary thinking and would look forward without fear of commitment,” he said.

Those years saw the planting of the seeds of the E&P cooperation between Russia and Vietnam that underpins today’s successful projects developed by Gazprom EP International in Vietnam with the connections and expertise acquired by Vladimir Vovk and his colleagues thirty years ago. As an employee at Gazprom EP International, Vladimir was in charge of joint projects in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Vladimir Vovk was the mastermind behind and one of the authors of the book entitled To the Wealth of the Yellow Dragon published in 2018 under the sponsorship of Gazprom EP International. The book features the unique background of Soviet-Vietnamese cooperation in geology and oil and gas dating back to the 1950s. It portrays the enormous efforts that two countries undertook to make the petroleum industry and economy burgeon in the newly emerging Republic of Vietnam.

Presently, Vladimir Vovk remains employed by the Gazprom Group as Adviser to the Director-General of Gazprom Neft Shelf sharing his wealth of experience and knowledge with new blood working in offshore projects.

Gazprom EP International wishes to wholeheartedly congratulate Mr. Vladimir Vovk on his illustrious award and acknowledges his invaluable contribution to making the company thrive and develop.
