Final Round of 8th Corporate Fakel Festival Solemnly Opens in Sochi

The solemn opening of the final round of the Gazprom’s 8th corporate Fakel Festival took place in Sochi (Krasnaya Polyana). Over 1600 people representing 40 delegations from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and China participated in the event. Among the guests were the delegations from Bolivia, Vietnam, Germany, Uzbekistan and France.

During three days, the contenders for the title of festival laureates will perform in such categories as Vocals, Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles, Choreography, Folk Music, and Circus and Performance Art — 131 performances in total. The best performers and performing groups will compete in three age categories: 5 to 10, 11 to 16 inclusively, and 17 and older. Moreover, the Festival hosts the Young Painter contest.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, sent a welcoming message to the participants and guests of the Festival. Among other things, it says:

“It is the fifteenth anniversary of our festival. Over these years, it has grown into a significant international cultural project. Each performance at our festival is a serious creative challenge for everyone getting on stage. Meanwhile, it is a great opportunity for the audience to get acquainted with the cultural traditions of various regions of Russia and other countries as well as to feel inspired by the performances of very different, but, for no doubt, talented people”.

“I have been a member of the festival jury for many years and have come to realize that professionals have something to learn from amateur performers of Gazprom. A very high level of skills and artistic freedom are the key to their success”, said Alexandra Permyakova, President of the Festival Jury and Artistic Director of the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Choir.

The winners of the final round of the Gazprom’s 8th Corporate Fakel Festival will be announced at the awards ceremony on 15 May 2019. The Festival will end with a Gala Concert featuring the laureates on 16 May 2019.
Renata Abdumuminova, a young painter from Uzbekistan representing Gazprom EP International, qualified for the final round. Among the honored guests of the Festival were performing groups from Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Bolivia, the countries where the company operates. Foreign participants will perform out of the competition program at the Friendship Night and at the Final Gala Concert of the Fakel Festival.

Background
The Fakel Festival is held once every two years in three stages. During the first stage, the Gazprom’s subsidiaries determine their best performers to participate in the regional rounds. During the second stage, the regional rounds are held (in the southern and northern zones). Then the winners perform in the third and final round.

The host cities of the regional rounds were Astrakhan, Belgorod, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg (twice), Surgut, Tomsk, Khanty-Mansiysk and Yugorsk. The final rounds of the Festival were held in Gelendzhik (2006–2012), Vitebsk (Belarus, 2013) and Sochi (2015 and 2017).
