Gazprom International's Debut at Gazprom Winter Spartakiada Games

Gazprom EP International team participated in the Gazprom Winter Spartakiada Games that opened on February 27 in Ekaterinburg. Regardless of the fact that Gazprom International is a newcomer to the winter competitions its team is taking a shot in every sport.

Roman Fomin, Deputy Chief Geologist for Field Development in Algeria, got into the limelight in cross-country skiing. The “Algerian skier” told his colleagues that he had to train for the race on scorching asphalt.

Futsal, basketball and table tennis matches took place on the first day of the Spartakiada Games. «Very strong rivals met today, and it was great, it is so motivating to play with such professionals», said Sergey Klasin, Lead Specialist of the Financial Division.

Alexander Nikiforov, Deputy Managing Director of Gazprom International, wished the participants success and fair competition, and added that the company pays significant attention to promotion of sport: “Sport is an integral and important part of our corporate culture. Our company is one large close-knit team, and even though it is only the second Spartakiada Games for us, participation in such events strengthens our corporate spirit and the will to win”.

It is the main aim of the Spartakiada Games: to maintain team spirit, observe sports traditions and contribute to the promotion of a healthy life style. Most importantly, in any age and in any position to be open-minded, rise above oneself and aim at becoming the winner in one's own individual championship.

Since 1996, Gazprom Winter Spartakiada Games have been held once in every four years. This year the Spartakiada Games are bringing together 25 adult and 11 junior teams from 27 Gazprom subsidiaries. Until March 5, nine sports venues around the city will see some 1,400 amateur athletes compete for 138 awards in six sports: basketball, volleyball, cross-country skiing, futsal, table tennis, and bullseye shooting.
