Gazprom International team has received a special award for corporate sport competition of PJSC Gazprom affiliates and subsidiaries – Spartakiada Debutant Diploma and Cup. The awarding took place on 14 September during the closing ceremony of the Gazprom XII Summer Spartakiada in the Adler-Arena hall of the Sochi Olympic Park.
Within a week from 8 till 15 September Gazprom International sportsmen stood up courageously for the Company at football and volleyball tournaments, swimming, running and chess. Although the team has not reached the top-3, it proved to be in good competitive shape, revealed a will to win, team spirit and incredible solidarity. According to Company’s sport delegation leader Evgeny Yadryshnikov, all participants kept on pushing to their limits. Sometimes they even surpassed themselves. “Our team includes neither former nor professional sportsmen. Our FLY GI team consists of ordinary office employees, and most of them are far from professional sport. Starting from the first competitions, we faced strong competitors, sportsmen of a world-class Olympic level. Therefore there is nothing our colleagues could be reproached for,” emphasizes Evgeny.
Besides thrilling sport competitions Spartakiada members enjoyed rich cultural programme and sightseeing tours. Gazprom International delegation had a chance to visit the city of Sochi, PJSC Gazprom's Mountain Tourist Center, to admire picturesque Psekhako mountain ridge at the height of 1660 m above the sea level, to take a ride along the most extended 3S ropeway, to have a look at Olympic facilities and walk along the cozy streets of the Rosa Khutor resort.
“Sochi seems to be two different cities before and after the Olympic Games. Grandiose Olympic facilities built in harmony with beautiful natural landscape evoke pride for our country and our sportsmen. I am happy that now the city can offer world-class professional sport bases available for common tourists,” Leonid Dorogoy, IT Manager of the Algerian Branch of Gazprom International, the chess player, shares his impressions.
“The strongest impression is when you are at the height of 1600 meters above the sea level and you get to know that your team has scored a goal. It is twice as pleasant to hear it on the top of the mountain,” recalls Olga Kozhemiakina, the lead specialist of Geological Data Acquisition and Analysis Section of the St. Petersburg Branch of Gazprom International, the swimmer. “I am really overwhelmed by the picturesque road to Krasnaya Polyana and wonderful nature. The surroundings are clean, well-managed and executed in the European style. It seems as if you are somewhere in the Alps.”
“Gazprom International is the specialized enterprise for implementation of Gazprom's foreign projects. The Company branches are located all over the world, and employees from different countries work in its structure. Each of these countries whether it is a high-mountain Bolivia or subtropical Vietnam differs for its geographical and cultural peculiarities, and we are not able to meet frequently,” says Maria Pyatnitskaya, Deputy Head of Division of Public and Media Relations Service in St. Petersburg. “Therefore, such corporate activities are of a special value: they give us the possibility of personal communication and strengthen the team spirit. Wonderful excursions included in the Spartakiada programme allowed our foreign colleagues to know Russia and its sightseeing attractions better.”
Gazprom International team has already returned from Sochi. The sportsmen have already taken up their duties in different cities and countries. However, everyone is sure that this debut is the beginning of a long sport way of the Company, good impulse for development of the Gazprom Group corporate traditions. Many of the colleagues plan to participate in the next Spartakiada and have already started to prepare for it.
